Dataset(s): Recorded crime data at Community Safety Partnership and local authority level

Recorded crime figures for Community Safety Partnerships which equates in the majority of instances to local authorities . The data are rolling 12 month totals, with data points shown at the end of each financial year between year ending March 2003 and year ending March 2007 and at the end of each quarter from June 2007. The data cover local authority boundaries from April 2009 onwards and local authority area names correspond to Community Safety Partnership areas.

  1. For certain statistics initial estimates are released with the expectation that these may be revised and updated as further data becomes available.
  2. Revisions may also be made when methods or systems are changed.

These types of planned revisions should not be confused with errors in released statistics, which are genuine mistakes. Such mistakes occur rarely and, when they do happen, corrections are made in a timely manner, announced and clearly explained to users in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics (Principle 2, Practice 7).

A small error occurred for North Hampshire_Basingstoke and Deane, North Hampshire_Hart and North Hampshire_ Rushmoor. This affected the Hampshire Police Force totals for the years ending June 2016, September 2016, December 2016 and March 2017. This error has now been corrected. These tables are no longer produced.  As part of this change, we will now publish breakdowns of police recorded crime figures by Community Safety Partnership (CSP) area alongside each quarterly crime statistics bulletin. Users requiring access to more detailed CSP or police force area level recorded crime data, including longer time series data at these local levels, will be able to download the Home Office open data tables on police recorded crime.
